Resources I’m using

The last time I had a website, I used FatCow to host it. I also registered my domain name through them, which ended up being a mistake. They hosted my site for 2 or 3 years, prepaid, and I honestly had no issues until it was time to renew. Thing was, I didn’t want to renew as I just wanted to take my site down. But they didn’t see it as that easy. Long story short is that I refused to pay/renew, and they held my domain name hostage (and still do to this day, but costs 1/3 what it did 5 years ago). Fast forward a couple of years and I foolishly did the same thing, this time with GreenGeeks. When it came time to cancel, they were “less” difficult. Bottom line, never register your domain name through your webhost folks. This time, I took a different route and registered my domain with Google Domains. As for webhosting, I learned to stay away from any EIG outfits. After reading up about EIG, it made sense based on my previous experiences. So this time around I’m trying Veerotech. So far so good, even though I did have figure out how to use name servers.

My front-end development is currently done 100% on a Chromebook, which does have some challenges. You can accomplish pretty much anything when developing a website, but it does involve a bit more work. I use Caret for my text editor, which is simple enough and utilizes text formatting, but eventually I’ll need an IDE. I used Shift Edit previously, and will probably use it again. That’s all for now, till next time!

Hello world!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done any type of web development, so I’m getting back into it. Most of my past work was for personal use/hobby, other than a couple of paid projects I did for friends. I anticipate mostly the same again, with my site being a place to put up personal projects, share thoughts, and possibly host sports pools. This time around, I’m interested in exploring new and advanced (to me) web dev realms. This blog being one, as I’ve never had a published blog before, so that should be fun to learn about. I’m not sure how many eyes it will reach outside of family (lol), but clicks and views is not the ultimate goal here. The blog so far is completely default – I haven’t looked into ANY customization yet, but I’ll explore that soon enough. I’m in the very early stages, and honestly feel like I’m starting over in so many aspects. Well that’s all for now!
